There is (finally!) much more awareness now about the perimenopause after a long history of women not understanding the changes they were going through, and unnecessary suffering with feeling isolated and lonely – as well as physical symptoms that can sometimes impact negatively on day-to-day life. Women are now becoming more educated in how to manage this transition, and a perimenopause retreat can be useful to help you understand how to support yourself and, in fact, flourish!
Perimenopause is the transitional period leading up to the menopause, marking the end of a woman’s reproductive years. It typically begins in a woman’s 40s but can start in her 30s or even earlier. This phase can last several years, with various physical and hormonal changes as the body prepares to stop ovulating.
Common symptoms include:
Irregular menstrual cycles – including increased and decreased blood flow during periods and shorter/longer cycles
Hot flushes and night sweats
Sleep disturbances
Mood changes – increased irritability, anxiety, or depression
Vaginal dryness – reduced estrogen levels can cause the vaginal tissues to become drier and thinner
A drop in sexual desire or arousal
Weight gain -changes in metabolism and body composition
Memory problems – difficulty concentrating or remembering things – sometimes called ‘brain fog’
Forest Retreats recognise the need for a retreat solely focused on educating perimenopausal women, with an opportunity to connect, share and relax. We are delighted to be partnering with personal trainer and nutritional expert Tash to deliver Flourish – Perimenopausal Women’s Retreat at Hill Farm, Tintern.
